FSSAI Cracks Down on Major Food Companies for Misleading Ads
The Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI) has taken action against several major food companies in recent months. The regulator issued over 150 notices to firms including Nestle, PepsiCo, Coca-Cola, and Abbott for misleading advertisements, false claims, and non-compliance with labelling regulations.
The FSSAI shared the list of affected brands on social media, highlighting its enforcement action against major companies in various categories. Among these are energy drink manufacturers like Red Bull India and Monster Energy India Pvt Ltd, as well as alcoholic beverage makers such as Diageo and Pernod Ricard.
Some notable actions taken by FSSAI include seizing products of several companies due to violations, canceling one Amazon warehouse license, and suspending five Domino's licenses. The regulator has also sent notices to e-commerce platforms Amazon and Flipkart, as well as fast-food chains like KFC, McDonald's, Pizza Hut, Domino's, and Costa Coffee.
The FSSAI stated that many companies have started taking corrective actions following the issued notices. This development comes after the regulator cracked down on energy drink and alcoholic beverage makers in recent months.
