The Federal Trade Commission's (FTC) Amazon Prime Subscription Settlement has kicked into high gear, with millions of customers receiving unexpected PayPal notifications. According to the FTC, Amazon is responsible for administering refunds directly under the terms of the agreement.

The settlement marks a major payout from the FTC's $2.5 billion action against Amazon, which alleged that the company used 'subscription traps' making Prime difficult to cancel. Under the settlement, consumers who unintentionally enrolled in Prime or struggled to cancel between 2019 and 2025 may be eligible for refunds.

A statement from the FTC clarified that they are not issuing any refunds related to this particular settlement. Instead, Amazon's settlement administrator is distributing payments via PayPal, Venmo, or mailed checks. Those receiving digital payments must accept them to receive their funds.
