Galanz Retro Fridge Recall Issued After Reports of Fires and Fatalities
A major recall has been issued for over 120,000 retro-style refrigerators sold by Galanz Americas at Home Depot and Amazon. The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission announced the recall after receiving reports of fires and one death linked to the fridges.
The recalled fridges have internal electrical components that can short circuit and ignite, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire and burn hazards. There have been 34 reported cases of fires associated with these fridges, including one fatality. The exact location of the fatal incident is not specified.
The recall only applies to Galanz fridges with date codes between December 2018 and December 2020. Consumers are advised to unplug and stop using the recalled product until a technician completes a free on-site repair.
