Gaming Giants Refuse to Refund Tariff-Related Price Hikes

Nintendo's example has set a precedent for other gaming giants in the US. Sony and Microsoft are arguing that they have no obligation to pass on tariff refunds to consumers who paid higher prices for their consoles in 2025.

The tariffs, imposed by the US government, were deemed illegal earlier this year, allowing companies affected by them to request refunds.

However, in two separate lawsuits, lawyers representing Sony and Microsoft have argued that these refunds do not extend to consumers who purchased their products at elevated prices.

Sony's argument is based on the idea that consumers got what they paid for when purchasing consoles at higher prices. In a legal motion, the company stated that 'paying fair market price for voluntarily purchased consumer goods is not a legally cognisable injury in fact.'
