Ganfan Yingying's Sudden Death Raises Concerns Over Extreme Eating Content
Ganfan Yingying, a popular Chinese mukbang creator, died on August 17 at age 24. Her parents posted an obituary on September 4 without disclosing the official cause of death.
Chen had built a large following by posting mukbang videos on Chinese social media, with over 1 million followers and 169 posts, most featuring extreme eating content.
In her final video posted three days before her death, Chen revealed that she had been hospitalized due to severe low potassium levels, specifically 2.3 mmol/L, which is considered a medical emergency.
Medical experts warn that this level of hypokalaemia can cause cardiac complications and require urgent attention. The Merck Manual defines severe hypokalaemia as a blood potassium concentration below 2.5 mmol/L.
