Gates Foundation Cuts Berkshire Stake by Over $800 Million
The Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation's investment arm has made significant changes to its portfolio in Q2 2026, trimming its stake in Warren Buffett's Berkshire Hathaway by over $800 million. The trust reduced its long-standing stake in Berkshire Hathaway by 14%, selling 2.4 million shares and leaving it with 14.7 million shares valued at $7.35 billion.
The foundation also sold 921,600 shares of Waste Management, lowering its stake value by $396.4 million to $5.96 billion. However, the trust allocated capital into new opportunities, acquiring 1 million shares of Home Depot and establishing a position worth $352.7 million.
In addition, the foundation initiated a stake in FedEx Freight Holding Company Inc., valued at $180 million. The total portfolio value rose from $31.67 billion across 22 holdings to $34.42 billion across 24 holdings by June 30, 2026.
