Gemini Helps Excel User Break Free From Spreadsheet Overload

Tony Phillips, an experienced Microsoft Office user and data manager, was stuck in a cycle of creating Excel dashboards. He would add more charts and features, but often felt overwhelmed by the complexity of his spreadsheets.

Phillips turned to Gemini, an AI chatbot, to help him create a dashboard. He fed Gemini two CSV files containing library data: 40 authors and 180 books linked by the AuthorID column.

The instruction was simple: 'Decide what matters' from the data. Phillips wanted Gemini to analyze the information and create a standalone offline app that could replace his ongoing spreadsheet workflow.

Gemini built a clean and intuitive dashboard with four summary cards showing key library metrics, including author and book counts. The app also featured bar charts for books by genre, reading status, top authors by average rating, and authors by country.

What impressed Phillips was what Gemini didn't do, it resisted the urge to fill the screen with unnecessary visualizations, instead focusing on essential information. The app also had a proper navigation structure, allowing users to drill into individual authors or books for more detail.
