Gemini Reaches One Billion Monthly Users, Fueling AI Assistant Race

Google's Gemini AI assistant has reached one billion monthly users, marking a significant milestone in the battle to make generative AI mainstream. According to Google CEO Sundar Pichai, Gemini is the company's fastest-growing product and its 14th product to reach one billion users.

The latest figures show that 63% of users now speak directly to Gemini, with a growing number using voice only for everyday tasks. Busy parents are 43% more likely to use voice for these tasks, while DIY users and students are particularly drawn to the app's visual features, such as Gemini Live.

Gemini Live allows users to share their screen or turn on a live camera feed to get help with real-world problems, which has proved popular among power users of the macOS app. The company also notes that more than 100 million active Gemini users are on iOS, and that the assistant can automate actions across over 40 popular apps on Android.

Google is positioning Gemini as a single place to create image, video, and audio content, particularly for small businesses creating marketing assets. Students make up a significant portion of Gemini's user base, with 38% of school-related requests including an attachment.
