Gemini Trip Planning Fiasco Leaves Hikers Stranded on Mount Shasta
Three hikers were rescued from California's Mount Shasta after relying on Google Gemini for trip planning. According to the Chicago Tribune, the men had used Gemini to plan their hike and followed its advice to bring less food and water than they needed.
The group camped at 8,400 feet of elevation before setting out to reach the peak at 3:00 AM on Sunday morning. However, they got lost during the descent and spent the night in 'steep drainage' before being rescued.
The local sheriff's office reported that Gemini had advised the hikers to bring less food and water than their group required, especially considering their planned eight-hour ascent turned into a multiday ordeal.
As a result, the sheriff's office warned against relying solely on AI for trip planning and encouraged people to contact local authorities for accurate information before embarking on a hike.
