GEnx-Powered Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner Tops Fuel Burn Rankings
A study by Aircraft Commerce found that the GEnx-powered Boeing 787-10 Dreamliner has the lowest fuel burn per available seat mile among 14 widebody aircraft-engine combinations.
The study, published in December 2018/January 2019, compared data from Lufthansa Systems and ranked the 787-10 with GEnx engines first across five routes of varying distances.
The GEnx engine's design is based on the GE90, but with a lighter construction and improved thermodynamic cycle. It uses composite fan blades that weigh approximately one-third less than titanium blades, reducing fuel consumption.
