GermGuardian and Honeywell Top Consumer Reports' Air Purifier List
Consumer Reports tested five air purifiers designed for small spaces to find the quietest and most effective options for remote workers.
The GermGuardian CDAP4500BCA was rated excellent at removing dust, pollen, and smoke particles at both high and low speeds in rooms up to 150 square feet. It also has WiFi connectivity and can be controlled by smartphone or through Amazon Alexa and Google Assistant.
However, the estimated annual cost of $142 for filters and energy use was higher than most other small air purifiers tested.
The Honeywell InSight HPA5300B costs about $200 and includes an auto mode that adjusts fan speed based on detected air quality. It performed excellently in a room sized for a home office regardless of setting, but wasn't whisper-quiet at its loudest setting.
