GitHub Downloads Halted by 50% Error Rate
GitHub has been experiencing issues with repository downloads, with a reported 50% error rate. The problems started at 13:40 UTC and have affected numerous services, including Issues.
Github Copilot is also experiencing degraded availability, according to the company's status page.
The cause of the issue remains unknown, but it's not the first time GitHub has experienced disruptions this year.
Earlier in August, the company's Actions automation platform and Pages hosting service were affected by problems. In May 2026, Microsoft acknowledged that AI-assisted coding was adding to the strain on the service.
Microsoft CEO Satya Nadella previously stated that AI was writing up to 30% of code in some repositories, subject to human review.
