Glassblowing Industry Veteran Richard Thomas Scholz Sr. Passes Away Aged 77
Richard Thomas Scholz Sr., a glassblowing industry veteran, passed away at his home in Hamburg, New Jersey on September 6, 2026. Born and raised in New Jersey, he spent over four decades residing in Hamburg.
Scholz joined his future father-in-law's glass blowing business, A&R Glass, at the age of 17 and eventually became its owner in the 1980s. He worked in the scientific glass industry for over three decades, with stints at Q Glass and Hoffman-La Roche.
Scholz was also a manager at Home Depot in Clifton before retiring from the Dover store. A member of the American Scientific Glassblowers Society, he found time to fish both on the ocean and in small streams, as well as spend summers deep-sea fishing and crabbing with his family.
A devoted husband and father of four, Scholz was preceded in death by his infant daughter, Andrea, and several relatives. He is survived by his wife Carol, their children, five grandchildren, a sister, and numerous nieces and nephews.
