Global Car Rental Prices Expected to Rise Modestly in 2026-27

Global car rental prices are expected to remain relatively stable in 2026-27, according to American Express Global Business Travel (Amex GBT). The company's latest Ground Monitor forecasts modest increases in both Canada and the United States, with rates rising between 1.5% and 2%. This is attributed to restrained GDP growth and improved vehicle supply.

Rising auto insurance costs could add upward pressure on prices, but Amex GBT sees this as a moderate factor. In contrast, significant growth in city surcharges in North America, including airport fees and day-of-week charges, may increase costs for travelers.

The regional outlook varies widely, with Australia expected to see rental rate increases of 3% to 3.4%. Latin American countries such as Brazil and Chile are forecast to post increases of between 2% and 4%, supported by healthy leisure and corporate demand.
