Over 100 companies, including tech giants like Microsoft and Google, have joined OpenAI in calling for a global effort to strengthen cyber defenses against increasingly sophisticated AI-powered attacks. The companies are warning that critical infrastructure such as hospitals, water treatment facilities, and internet services could be particularly vulnerable to these threats.

The signatories argue that many organizations still rely on outdated systems and unpatched software, making it easier for attackers to exploit weaknesses using advanced AI models. To address this issue, they recommend that organizations prioritize identifying their most critical vulnerabilities and implementing stronger access controls before AI-powered attacks become more common.

OpenAI is also advocating for cybersecurity professionals to have access to capable AI models, which could be used to find vulnerabilities, develop patches, analyze attacks, and respond to incidents more quickly. This would put defenders on an equal footing with attackers who may eventually use advanced AI capabilities.
