GM Hits Billion-Mile Mark with Super Cruise, Adds Google Voice Assistant
General Motors (GM) has reached a major milestone for its Super Cruise driver assistance system. The company's fleet of Super Cruise-enabled cars, which number nearly 750,000 in North America, have collectively driven over 1 billion hands-free miles.
This achievement is significant as it highlights the growing adoption and effectiveness of GM's advanced driver assistance technology. In addition to this milestone, GM has announced that it will be integrating Google's Gemini AI voice assistant into approximately 4 million vehicles via over-the-air software updates.
The integration of Gemini AI will enable drivers and passengers to interact with their vehicles in a more natural way, asking questions and receiving relevant answers. This update is expected to benefit models dating back to 2022, including those without Super Cruise capabilities.
GM's focus on autonomous driving efforts is evident through its plans to launch an eyes-off version of Super Cruise in the Escalade IQ electric SUV by 2028. The company's growth in Super Cruise subscriptions also suggests increasing interest in this technology, with expectations that it will surpass 850,000 users by the end of the year.
