GM Rolls Out Gemini Support in Over Four Million Vehicles
General Motors has announced that it will be adding support for Google Gemini to over four million of its vehicles. The update will enable owners to interact with their cars using a hands-free, conversational AI chatbot through the vehicle's infotainment system.
The affected vehicles are those from model year 2022 or newer, including GMC, Chevrolet, Buick, and Cadillac models. To take advantage of this feature, owners need to connect to OnStar, sign into the Google Play Store, set US English as their assistant language, and opt-in to Gemini.
Once these steps are completed, drivers can use voice commands to perform various tasks such as summarizing incoming text messages, sending new ones, or even controlling music playback. Additionally, owners can ask Gemini to plan routes with detours for specific stops, such as grabbing coffee.
General Motors has also teased plans to introduce a custom-built AI assistant later this year, which will be fine-tuned with proprietary vehicle data to anticipate the needs of drivers.
