Golden Visa Migrants Can Now Invest in Build-to-Rent Housing Developments
New Zealand's 'Golden Visa' for high-net-worth migrants is set to expand its investment options, allowing them to support long-term rental housing developments through managed funds. The Active Investor Plus visa, which requires a minimum $5 million investment, will soon include build-to-rent housing developments as part of the approved investments.
The growth category of the visa, which focuses on investments supporting business growth and innovation, will be updated to include Build to Rent. This change aims to provide investors with another option for making a meaningful contribution to the economy, according to Immigration Minister Erica Stanford.
Housing Minister Chris Bishop sees this update as an opportunity to boost New Zealand's housing stock by adding to rental supply over time. However, direct investment in build-to-rent developments will not be accepted under the revised rules.
