Goldman Sachs Acquires NEOS to Build Active ETF Empire
Goldman Sachs is expanding its active ETF business by acquiring NEOS Investments in a deal expected to close in early 2027. This acquisition will bring Goldman's total options-based assets to $130 billion, solidifying its position as a powerhouse in the market.
NEOS has experienced rapid growth since its founding in 2022, managing $30 billion in assets and gathering $14 billion in 2026 alone. The firm's flagship strategies deliver elevated, monthly cash flow in a tax-efficient manner, making it an attractive option for wealth managers seeking reliable income.
The NEOS Nasdaq 100 High Income ETF (QQQI) and the NEOS S&P 500 High Income ETF (SPYI) are two of the firm's most popular products, with AUMs of $14 billion and $11 billion respectively. The acquisition will also bring Goldman access to NEOS's institutional-level options capabilities.
Advisor demand for income is driving the growth in active ETFs, with 36% of respondents prioritizing reliable income over long-term growth or managing market volatility in a recent survey.
