Goldman Sachs Alternatives Snags RWE Americas' Distributed Energy Business
RWE Americas has reached an agreement to sell its U.S. Distributed Clean Energy (DCE) business to Goldman Sachs Alternatives, creating a standalone distributed generation platform.
The deal includes approximately 348 MWdc of operating distributed renewable assets across 16 states and a 1.2 GW project development pipeline. The transaction is subject to regulatory approvals and customary closing conditions, with final closure anticipated in the fourth quarter of 2026.
RWE's North American subsidiary will focus on its utility-scale generation and storage activities following the divestment. RWE currently owns and operates 13 GW of utility-scale power projects across 27 U.S. states and plans to add 9 GW of solar, wind, battery storage, and natural gas projects by 2031.
The acquisition establishes a scaled, institutionally backed distributed generation platform for Goldman Sachs Alternatives, aimed at commercial-scale solar and local power infrastructure.
