Goldman Sachs Analyst Sentenced for Plotting Ex-Girlfriend's Murder with AI

A former Goldman Sachs analyst in Florida has been sentenced to eight years of probation for making violent threats against his ex-girlfriend and her family.

Darren Zhou, 25, used the AI chatbot ChatGPT to plot the rape and murder of his ex-girlfriend after their breakup in March. He told the chatbot that he planned to wait for her at a gym and then shoot himself if she rejected him.

Zhou's attorney claimed that he was going through a 'very difficult mental health episode' when he made the threats, but prosecutors said that the messages showed a pattern of rehearsal and planning.

ChatGPT reported Zhou to the FBI after it became aware of his violent intentions, and investigators obtained two months of Zhou's chat logs. They found that Zhou had also sent threatening messages to his ex-girlfriend from different phone numbers, including one with a lewd photo.
