Gonzalez Invests in Stocks He Criticizes Publicly
Texas Representative Vicente Gonzalez (D-TX) has faced criticism for his actions regarding Tesla and Apple stock. Despite publicly criticizing Elon Musk and Donald Trump's economic plans, Gonzalez made significant investments in both companies' stocks when their prices plummeted.
Gonzalez attacked Musk for his efforts to cut government spending with the Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) as early as February 2025. At the time, Tesla's stock price had already fallen by almost half between January and April that year due to Democratic pressure on the company in response to its cooperation with Trump's administration.
However, Gonzalez quietly purchased around $65,000 worth of Tesla stock on March 4, 2025. Just a week later, he bought an additional $100,000 in Tesla stock. The Texas Democrat was also pleased when Musk and Trump had a public fallout earlier this year, celebrating the event as a sign of Trump's decline.
Gonzalez's actions aren't limited to Tesla; he also took advantage of the dip in Apple stock after criticizing Trump's 'Liberation Day' tariff policies. Gonzalez called Trump's economic plans 'disastrous' and accused him of forcing higher prices on Americans, all while buying up to $250,000 worth of Apple stock as its price fell.
Gonzalez sold his Apple stock at the right time, making a profit when the company's stock began rising again. The Representative is now running for re-election in the 2026 midterms and will face Republican Eric Flores in November.
