Google Accelerates AI Momentum with Leadership Shakeup
Google's AI momentum continues to grow, according to CEO Sundar Pichai. In a message to employees, he highlighted the company's progress in delivering its full AI stack and praised the team for their work on Gemini models, which are in high demand among developers and businesses.
The Gemini app has reached 950M+ monthly users, and Google's AI research continues to drive field-defining breakthroughs. Pichai noted that 'we have to accelerate all this work and stay focused on the AI frontier.'
As part of this effort, Demis Hassabis will become the Chair of GDM and Chief Scientist of Alphabet, while Koray Kavukcuoglu will step up as SVP of Google DeepMind. Hassabis will continue to lead Isomorphic Labs and focus on shaping the future of Artificial General Intelligence (AGI).
Pichai also announced that Jeff Dean is leaving his role at Google to launch an independent public benefit corporation with Sanjay Ghemawat, aimed at accelerating discoveries in machine learning, science, and engineering.
