Google Accelerates Cloud Migration Planning with AI-Powered Assessments
Google's Migration Center has been enhanced with AI-powered Quick Assessments, powered by Gemini. This feature is designed to speed up cloud migration planning by providing near-instant total cost of ownership (TCO) modeling and automated service mapping.
The previous process required enterprises to collect infrastructure data, define migration preferences, and then generate recommendations and TCO reports. The new AI-powered Quick Assessment compresses this process into a Gemini-driven workflow that can ingest high-level infrastructure data or VMware exports and automatically build a Compute Engine cost model.
Pareekh Jain, principal analyst at Pareekh Consulting, believes that this will make the early stage of cloud migration much faster and cheaper. 'CIOs can quickly get a rough view of migration costs, savings, and required infrastructure,' he said.
However, Manoj Chandra Jha, principal analyst at Nord-IQ Research, cautioned that AI-generated TCO outputs should be treated as directional screening estimates rather than investment-grade business cases. He also warned that CIOs should not mistake faster financial modeling for faster migrations.
