Google Acquires Spirit Airlines Internal Data for $10 Million
Google has acquired Spirit Airlines' internal business data for $10 million in a bankruptcy auction. The collection includes approximately 100 million emails and 500 million Microsoft Teams messages, as well as software code and internal documents.
The proposed sale remains subject to approval by the U.S. Bankruptcy Court. Google outbid AI recruiting company Mercor, which submitted a $7.5 million offer.
Employment and privacy experts warn that workplace emails and communications can generally be retained and used by employers, depending on company policies and applicable laws.
