A federal judge has rejected the Justice Department's request to break up Google's advertising technology business.

The ruling by Judge Leonie Brinkema comes after she found in April 2025 that Google had illegally obtained and maintained a monopoly over two markets in advertising technology. The company was sued by the Justice Department in 2023.

Despite this, Brinkema did not require Google to break up its AdX exchange business or sell off parts of it. She also declined to force the company to open-source the technology behind its DoubleClick for Publishers platform.

Google's vice president of regulatory affairs, Lee-Anne Mulholland, said in a statement that the company was 'pleased' with the ruling, as it will allow small businesses to continue using tools that help them reach new customers and grow.
