Google Agrees to $353M Settlement Over Mobile App Market Dominance

A group of British developers who sued Google over its dominance in the mobile app market have reached a settlement, with the tech giant agreeing to pay $353.2 million in compensation.

The lawsuit, filed in 2024, accused Google of exploiting its monopoly position and forcing developers to publish their apps on Google Play, while also charging an unfairly high 30% commission.

Under the terms of the settlement, Google will pay a total of $353.2 million, with $135.8 million going towards legal expenses, leaving $217.3 million for the developers.

The payout will be distributed to all British developers who published apps on Google Play between August 2018 and July 2026.
