Google has agreed to pay out $68 million in a settlement related to allegations that its Google Assistant feature can activate and record communications without user consent.

The settlement, which stems from a class-action lawsuit, covers customers who purchased a Google-made device in the U.S. or its territories between May 18, 2016, and March 19, 2026. This includes users whose communications were recorded or obtained by Google Assistant during this period.

To file a claim for part of the settlement, eligible users can submit their information online through the settlement website, call 1-877-411-4704, or mail in a form postmarked no later than August 27, 2026. The final payment amount will depend on the total number of valid and timely claims submitted.
