Google Bids $10 Million for Spirit Airlines' Business Archive
Google's reported $10 million bid for part of Spirit Airlines' business archive has raised concerns about data privacy and the use of workplace records in AI development.
The archive contains years of operational, commercial, communications, and employee material, including over 500 million Microsoft Teams records, approximately 7.2 billion competitor-flight records, and over 175,000 employee records.
Google has stated that the data it receives will not include personal information and that a third party will scrub personally identifiable information before receipt.
The Association of Flight Attendants-CWA has objected to the treatment of employee information in the proposed package, arguing that de-identification is not enough to protect sensitive records.
