Google Boosts Pixel Watch with Offline Gemini and Gesture Upgrades
Google has released a significant update for its Pixel Watch 5, just weeks after its launch. The September update brings several new features to the smartwatch, including offline Gemini capabilities and improved hand gestures.
The offline Gemini feature allows users to perform core commands on their watch without an internet connection. This means tasks like setting a timer or starting a workout can be done even when the watch is not connected to a phone. Google has also improved the Raise to Talk gesture model, making it easier to invoke Gemini by lifting your wrist.
The update also introduces Gemini Personalization, which uses information from past conversations and connected services to provide more personalized responses. This feature pulls data from users' Google accounts, including Gmail, Calendar, Search, YouTube, and Photos.
Additionally, the update includes a new Proactive Suggestions feature, but it only works when paired with a Pixel 11 phone and has Gemini and proactive assistance enabled. The update also improves GPS route maps, making them more accurate and easier to navigate.
