Google Brings New Tools to Millions of Android Phones in September Feature Drop
Google has announced the September Android Feature Drop, which will bring new tools to millions of Android phones. The update is available for devices running Android 16 or 17, with some features rolling out to phones as old as Android 9.
The headline addition is Find Hub's remembered items feature, which allows users to ask Gemini to remember the location of items without a tracker tag. Users can give reminders like 'remember I put my passport in my bedroom drawer' and the location will be saved for later recall.
Other new features include Motion Assist, which adds a moving overlay to the screen designed to reduce motion sickness when using a phone as a passenger in a car. This feature is only available on Android 17 devices. Guided vision lets users share their camera with Gemini Live to hear spoken descriptions of what's in front of them.
The update also includes two new features for Google Messages: shared Google Keep notes and customizable chat themes. However, the highly anticipated Gemini Intelligence, which is part of the agentic AI suite, has been left out of this update. This may be due to the requirement of at least 12GB of RAM to run the feature.
