Google Brings Pixel Ads to Android Notification Panel
Google has started showing ads for its own Pixel products in notifications on Android devices. This marks a departure from the company's previous policy of not advertising its own hardware on its own platforms. The ads appear as alerts in the notification panel and offer discounts for Google's new Pixel 11 series phones.
The ads are enabled by default, but users can turn them off through the My Pixel app settings. To disable ads, users can either disable notifications for the My Pixel app altogether or toggle off the 'New Products and Offers' feature within the app settings.
Google officially announced the Pixel 11 phones on August 12, and they went on sale at online retailers as of August 20. The move to show ads in notifications has raised questions about Google's data collection practices and its decision to monetize user interactions with its own apps.
