Deep-tech startup Mitti Labs has signed a five-year carbon credit agreement with Google to deliver one million high-integrity credits by 2030. This deal represents the largest rice methane offtake to date, covering 100,000 hectares in India.

The partnership aims to scale climate-smart agriculture by transitioning farmers from continuous flooding to alternate irrigation practices, which cuts up to 50% of methane emissions from rice fields and reduces irrigation volumes by close to 40%, while maintaining yields.

The deal follows Mitti Labs' recent funding round, reflecting growing momentum for agriculture as a climate solution. The partnership will help eliminate three million tons of near-term warming impact (GWP20) and target billions of litres in water savings.
