Google Buys Spirit Airlines Data for $10 Million
Google has acquired Spirit Airlines' data for $10 million to improve its AI models. The airline, which halted operations in May, is selling off its remaining assets through bankruptcy. This includes emails and internal communications, spreadsheets, transactions with the public, and human resources information on employees. The data will be stripped of identifying information.
The sale is unusual as most bankrupt airlines are purchased whole by another carrier. Spirit Airlines was forced to halt operations entirely due to financial difficulties. Google confirmed that it will not receive any personal information as part of the purchase.
