Google Buys Spirit Airlines Data for $10 Million AI Push
Google has agreed to purchase internal business data from Spirit Airlines for $10 million. The data, which includes employee emails and Microsoft Teams messages, will be used for product development and training AI models. The acquisition comes after Spirit Airlines shut down its operations in May due to high debt and fuel costs.
The data sale is set to be considered by a U.S. bankruptcy judge at a court hearing on Wednesday. A rival bidder, Mercor, an AI data company, had offered $7.5 million for the same data.
Google plans to de-identify the data before purchasing it, ensuring that no customer or personally identifiable information is included in the sale.
