Google has acquired Spirit Airlines' dataset for $10 million to further develop its AI models. The data, which includes emails, internal communications, and frequent flyer information, is being used by Google to improve its products.

Spirit Airlines had been struggling financially after filing for bankruptcy protection twice in under a year due to high jet fuel prices and debt pressure.

The airline initially filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy in November 2024 but was unable to exit it successfully. It filed again in 2025 following a failed restructuring attempt.

A Google spokesperson stated that the acquired dataset is 'part of an enterprise dataset from Spirit Airlines, which can be helpful in improving our products and AI models.'
