Google Clears Path for Corporate AI Spending with Clearlake Deal
Alphabet's Google Cloud is expanding its reach into corporate AI budgets through a new partnership with Clearlake Capital. The deal gives Clearlake portfolio companies direct access to Google's full AI stack, including cloud infrastructure, data systems, agentic AI platforms, custom models, and enterprise security.
The partnership is significant as it positions Google to capture spending across the broader technology stack required to deploy AI at scale. Clearlake has more than 50 portfolio companies and has been aggressively building an AI ecosystem around them.
Earlier this month, Alphabet reported that its Google Cloud revenue surged 82% year over year to $24.8 billion in the second quarter, driven partly by enterprise AI infrastructure and AI solutions. Cloud operating income more than tripled to $8.8 billion, showing that AI-related growth is increasingly translating into profit rather than simply higher infrastructure spending.
The deal also joins a widening string of Google Cloud AI partnerships, including recent agreements involving Verizon and Ryanair. Investors should watch whether partnerships like Clearlake's sustain Google Cloud's exceptional growth while preserving its improving margins.
