Google Cloud Growth Leaves Investors Underestimating Its Potential
Google Cloud's rapid growth has caught many investors and executives by surprise. The segment's top line rose 32% year over year in Q2 2025, followed by 34% and 48% growth in Q3 and Q4 respectively.
The fourth quarter marked a meaningful acceleration for Google Cloud, but it wasn't until the start of 2026 that Alphabet mentioned this in press releases. The segment's growth rate surged to 63% year over year in Q1 2026, followed by an astonishing 82% growth in Q2 2026.
Not only has Google Cloud's growth outpaced Amazon Web Services and Microsoft Azure, but the growth rate has more than doubled in just one year. This rapid acceleration has lifted Alphabet's overall revenue, with Google Cloud making up 21.6% of the company's total profits.
The segment's operating income has also seen significant growth, more than tripling year over year. If this trend continues, it's not far-fetched to expect that Google Cloud could produce half of Alphabet's total operating income within the next two to three years.
