Google Cloud Surpasses Amazon in Cloud Computing Growth
Amazon Web Services (AWS) had a strong second quarter, but Google Cloud's performance was even more impressive.
Google Cloud grew its top line by nearly 82% and saw operating income growth of over 200%, outpacing Amazon's 37% revenue growth and 63% year-over-year improvement in operating income.
A key factor in Google Cloud's success is its growing market share. According to Synergy Research Group, Google Cloud reached a new record of 15% of the global cloud business last quarter, while Amazon's share declined from 28% to 27%. Microsoft's share also peaked in early 2024 and has been steadily declining.
The numbers are even more telling when considering the dollar value. Google Cloud revenue grew by over $11.1 billion, matching AWS' net growth of almost $11.4 billion on a whole-dollar basis.
