Google Cloud Takes Over Samsung Gallery Cloud Sync as OneDrive Support Ends
Samsung has finally announced an alternative to OneDrive for its Gallery Cloud Sync service. As of September 30, when Microsoft's support ends, Google Cloud will replace OneDrive as the cloud storage provider for Samsung devices.
The update to version 1.6.09.31 of Gallery Cloud Sync was spotted by Sandeep Adap on the Galaxy Store. The new service allows users to safely back up their photos and videos to Google Cloud, enabling multi-device synchronization and keeping content identical across devices.
The company highlights three main benefits: secure backups for photos, videos, and albums; multi-device synchronization that keeps Gallery content identical across devices; and storage through Google's cloud infrastructure. The new Sync photos and videos option inside Samsung Gallery settings allows users to select a Google account before enabling sync with Google.
It is unclear whether the synchronization will also mirror to Google Photos or if the service will offer two-way synchronization like OneDrive. Samsung has not revealed details on global availability, supported devices, or additional storage plans associated with the new service.
