Google Commits €13B to Finland AI Push
Google parent Alphabet has committed to investing at least €13 billion ($15.1 billion) in Finland's digital infrastructure over the next two years, as part of a push to build up AI capabilities.
The investment will go towards data centers and supporting infrastructure at four sites: Hamina, Kajaani, Muhos, and Vaala, along with clean energy and community and nature funds. This package is Google's largest single infrastructure investment in Europe, according to its own announcement.
As part of the deal, Alphabet has also signed a power purchase agreement with Fortum for the Loviisa nuclear plant, taking 50% of the site's output from 2030 to 2049. This marks Google's first nuclear PPA outside the United States.
