Google Cranks Up Recycling Efforts with 36% Recycled Materials in New Smartphone

Google's commitment to sustainability has reached new heights with its latest smartphone model, the Pixel 10a. Launched in March, this device boasts an impressive 36% of recycled materials by weight, outshining Apple iPhone models in this regard.

This milestone was achieved through a decade-long collaboration between Google's environmental sustainability, product design, materials engineering, and supply chain teams.

The work is part of Google's broader goal to incorporate recycled content into all new consumer electronics. By 2025, the company aims to use recycled plastics in at least 48% of its smartphones, watches, home automation devices, speakers, and other gadgets.

According to Tameron Stuber, product sustainability strategy lead for the Pixel portfolio at Google, 'Replacing virgin content with recycled material is one of our key levers for reducing the carbon footprint of individual products'.
