Google Data Center Approved in Barber County Despite Local Opposition
Commissioners in Barber County, Kansas, have approved a massive Google data center project. The 1.7 million square-foot facility will be located near the town of Sharon and is expected to bring significant economic benefits to the area.
The contract, finalized on Monday morning, outlines terms for setbacks from residential areas, runoff and sound limitations, as well as establishes Google's involvement in the county. The agreement passed 2-0, with one commissioner abstaining from the vote.
However, not everyone is pleased with the decision. Dozens of people gathered at the county's annex to voice their opposition, citing concerns about the project's impact on local infrastructure and the environment. One resident even announced plans to run for a seat on the commission.
