Google Data Center Developers Get Approval to Fill Protected Wetlands

The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) has approved a permit allowing Google's data center developers to fill more protected wetlands in Fort Wayne, Indiana.

IDEM granted the proposal from Hatchworks, LLC on September 10, which will enable the construction of three additional buildings and the filling of an additional 2.13 acres of protected wetlands.

The approval comes with several conditions, including the purchase of 4.26 acres of forested wetland mitigation credits to replace or relocate impacted areas.

Hatchworks, LLC must also implement their mitigation plan as described in their application and provide proof of purchase for the wetland credits within the next year.
