Google Data Center Developers Seek to Fill More Wetlands in Fort Wayne Expansion

Hatchworks LLC, the developers of the Fort Wayne Google data center, has submitted an application to fill more than two acres of wetland for its Phase 3 expansion. The Indiana Department of Environmental Management (IDEM) published a notice about a public hearing on the request, which will take place on August 25 at 5 p.m. via Microsoft Teams.

The expansion is part of the $2 billion data center's multi-phase development, with developers planning to build three additional data center buildings and make improvements to the land after filling the wetlands. Hatchworks LLC claims that it will offset the impacts by purchasing 4.26 acres of wetland credits from the Openings Mitigation Bank in Fort Wayne.

This is not the first time IDEM has approved a request to fill wetlands at the data center site. Last year, they approved a similar request for an earlier expansion phase, and in April, they greenlit plans to add over 140 emergency diesel generators to the campus following public pushback.
