Google Data Center Grading Work Set to Begin in Botetourt County
Phased grading work is set to begin in Botetourt County for Google's data center campus. The project has been approved by county officials after Google satisfied requirements and received a Land Disturbance Permit.
The permit allows grading work to start on a 312-acre site inside the Botetourt Center at Greenfield. According to county officials, any work that requires additional state or federal environmental permits will continue to be reviewed by the appropriate agencies.
The Virginia Department of Environmental Quality (DEQ) is overseeing several environmental permits related to the project. The permit includes requirements for wetlands protection, erosion and stormwater management, blasting regulations, and sound restrictions.
Google has committed to conducting on-site sound monitoring during both construction and ongoing operations. Botetourt County will continue to provide updates as additional plans and permits are reviewed and approved.
