Google Data Center Partnership Could Bring Billions to Columbia County
Columbia County in Georgia is on the verge of forming a strategic economic development partnership with Google to establish a data center in the area.
The proposed 8-million-square-foot facility, likely a data center, has been met with criticism from local residents who fear its substantial utility consumption could negatively impact surrounding homeowners' water and electricity use.
County leaders, however, insist that the project will generate billions of dollars in revenue and provide property tax relief for homeowners.
Doug Duncan, chairman of the Columbia County Board of Commissioners, emphasized the importance of getting the partnership right, stating 'We have been deliberate throughout this process because we want to make sure we get this right.'
