Google Data Center Plans Halted by Property Rights Lawsuit

A legal battle is underway in Sand Springs, Oklahoma, over a proposed Google data center. Land Legacy, a nonprofit organization, claims that the Ringle family sold land to Project Spring LLC without acquiring all of the rights to develop it.

The conservation easement, signed by the Ringle family in 2013, prohibits industrial development on approximately 270 acres of the property. Land Legacy argues that this restriction was not waived when the property changed hands.

The case highlights the difference between government zoning and private restrictions attached to property. The question now before the court is what the 2013 agreement legally allows and whether those restrictions prevent some or all of the proposed development.
