Google Deepens Its AI Grasp on Search Results

Google is expanding its AI Overviews feature in Google Search, making it more prominent and detailed. For select searches, some users report that the 'Show More' button has been removed, with results jumping right into AI Mode and pushing blue links further down the page.

The AI Overviews now display full responses comparable to those seen when enabling AI Mode. Some pages also automatically load the 'Ask anything' box, allowing users to enter additional prompts and questions on the subject.

Google confirmed the move in a statement, stating that the changes only apply to topics where its systems determine it to be most useful. The company stressed that user feedback will continue to refine these experiences.

The expansion of AI Overviews has been met with criticism from publishers, who have invested years in SEO to get their content featured prominently in Google Search or on Google News. Features like AI Overviews scrape their content to produce AI summaries, which take up half the page and often go unclicked.
