Google DeepMind Defectors Launch AI-Driven Research Startup
A group of top AI researchers at Google DeepMind have left to form their own startup, Discovery Loop. The quartet, led by former Google chief scientist Jeff Dean, aims to speed up research across various industries using AI solutions.
The company will focus on automating the experimental loop in fields such as scientific discovery, engineering better medicines, and health informatics. Dean noted that they have worked together for 14-30 years and helped build some of the world's most used products and infrastructure.
Discovery Loop is structured as a public benefit corporation, balancing financial returns with social benefits. Radical Ventures and Khosla Ventures are co-leading its initial funding round.
